This house has such a sad tale. General Lee spent all night pacing the floors of this home making his decision to stay with the Union or follow his home state at the beginning of the civil war. Then the house was taken for non payment of back taxes. At that point it was chosen to make the house uninhabitable, by making it a national cemetery. Union soldiers were buried in the flower beds around the house. After the civil war, Robert E. Lee's son successfully sued to get the property back for it having been taken illegally. He then sold the house and property back to the government the following year.
The house isn't terribly large, but is packed full of artifacts and antique peices that are totally amazing.
This is a picture of George Washington. Lee's father in law was the George Washington's step grand son. For a long peroid of time this house housed alot of items of George Washington.
